What’s on the HiSET Math Test?

The HiSET (High School Equivalency Test) certifies high-school-level academic skills and is accepted in many states as an alternative to the GED.

The Math subtest has 50 multiple-choice questions in 90 minutes. It covers four areas: numbers & operations on numbers, measurement & geometry, data analysis, probability & statistics, and algebraic concepts.

A calculator is allowed (on-screen for computer testing, or an approved handheld for paper), and a formula reference sheet is provided.

Scoring: each HiSET subtest is scored from 1 to 20. To pass overall you generally need at least 8 on each subtest, a combined total of at least 45 across the five subtests, and at least a 2 on the essay — confirm your state’s exact requirements.
