Whether the version of the exam is online or paper format, students will get the same questions and the same amount of time to solve these questions. Test experience varies between these two formats.

During the online ISEE test, students have to interact with the screen to read the questions. If students want to work out questions offscreen, they will be provided a scratch paper and pencil on the testing site. Students who take the paper test will see the same questions as in the online exam. The answers must be written on a separate answer sheet, using an HB pencil. The essay response is written using only a blue or black pen. Students can do scratch work in the provided testing booklet’s blank space.
