Free ALEKS Math Practice Test (With Answers & Step-by-Step Solutions)
Test your skills with 10 ALEKS-style math questions — each with a worked solution — then keep practicing with free worksheets and study books.
What’s on the ALEKS Math Test?
ALEKS PPL places students into the right college math course. It is computer-adaptive and uses open-response questions — you enter your own answers rather than picking from choices, so guessing won’t help.
The assessment spans a wide range: arithmetic and number sense, algebra (linear and quadratic equations, exponents, polynomials, rational expressions), functions and graphing, geometry, and some trigonometry and precalculus.
There are about 30 questions, and an on-screen calculator appears only when a problem requires one. ALEKS is essentially untimed (schools usually allow a few hours).
Scoring: ALEKS reports a score from 0 to 100. Each college sets the cut scores for placement into courses such as college algebra, precalculus, or calculus — check your school’s bands.

- Slope: m = (y₂ − y₁) ÷ (x₂ − x₁).
- Quadratic formula: x = (−b ± √(b² − 4ac)) ÷ 2a.
- Area of a circle: A = πr²; circumference C = 2πr.
- Pythagorean theorem: a² + b² = c².
- Exponent rules: xᵃ·xᵇ = xᵃ⁺ᵇ; (xᵃ)ᵇ = xᵃᵇ.
- Percent: part = percent × whole.
Tips to Boost Your ALEKS Score
- Type answers carefully — ALEKS is open-response, so format matters.
- No guessing — work each problem out fully.
- Use the ALEKS Prep & Learning modules after the first attempt to raise your score.
