TSI Math Practice: How to Practice Effectively for the TSIA2
TSI Math for Beginners: A Step-by-Step Starter GuideFree TSI Math Practice Test (With Answers & Step-by-Step Solutions)
Test your skills with 10 TSIA2-style math questions — each with a worked solution — then keep practicing with free worksheets and study books.
What’s on the TSI Math Test?
The TSIA2 determines whether Texas students are ready for college-level math or need developmental support. It is untimed and computer-adaptive.
The math section draws from four areas: Quantitative Reasoning (ratios, proportions, percentages, and number sense), Algebraic Reasoning (expressions, linear and quadratic equations, and functions), Geometric & Spatial Reasoning (area, volume, and the coordinate plane), and Probabilistic & Statistical Reasoning (data, mean/median, and probability).
The placement portion (the College Readiness Classification, or CRC) has about 20 questions. An on-screen calculator pops up on questions where one is allowed.
Scoring: a CRC score of 950 or higher means you’re college-ready. A score of 910–949 can still qualify if your diagnostic score is high enough — check your college’s rules.

TSI Math Formulas You Should Know
- Percent: part = percent × whole.
- Slope: m = (y₂ − y₁) ÷ (x₂ − x₁).
- Quadratic formula: x = (−b ± √(b² − 4ac)) ÷ 2a.
- Area: triangle = ½bh; rectangle = l × w; circle = πr².
- Pythagorean theorem: a² + b² = c².
- Mean: sum of values ÷ number of values.
Tips to Pass the TSI
- It’s untimed — read carefully and don’t rush.
- Answer everything — there’s no penalty for guessing.
- Aim for 950+ on the CRC to skip developmental math.
- Review number sense first — it underpins the other areas.
